Ongoing Partnership Between Green Spark and Contracts Logistics Company

Green Spark have been working with this company for over eight years, carrying out annual audits on pollution risk on all key sites and providing pollution prevention services and equipment.  Our services have recently been expanded to undertake audit assessments on all aspects of ISO 14001:2015 compliance.

Background

In late 2010, the National Environment Manager became aware of the need to improve visibility on bulk fuel and other oil storage installations on upwards of 60 of the UK contract logistic sites.  He turned to Green Spark to support in cataloguing the site risk and benchmarking against legislation.  This process involved high level reporting and recommendations for improving pollution risk management and providing the services and equipment required to ensure effective pollution control.  Green Spark have provided ongoing support to continually benchmark and support sites to ensure continual improvement.

Proposed Solution

Green Spark needed to fully understand each sites infrastructure in order to recommend how to economically and efficiently manage it to meet compliance and operational needs.  This involved in-depth on-site assessments of current pollution controls and site infrastructure.  Reports were generated in an easy to understand format, providing Senior Management with the information they required to determine efficient and cost-effective measures to manage pollution risk.  Green Spark were also well placed to deliver the proposed solutions including verifying site drainage plans, producing easy to understand drainage plans, drain and interceptor servicing and the provision of spill kits and training.

Work Completed

Green Spark have provided on-going support throughout the eight-year contract.  Continual on-site environmental assessments benchmark sites to ensure continual improvement and make recommendations to ensure the implementation of company standards and legislative compliance.  Sites benefit from additional services including drain and interceptor servicing on an agreed preventative maintenance schedule and other required support such as provision of spill response equipment and training and support with environmental permitting and licensing.  Where occasional spills have occurred operationally, a team has been promptly despatched to contain and manage the incident and prevent escape from site.  Green Spark are also on hand to provide advice on environmental management and pollution risk management.

Results & Benefits

Our environmental site assessments benchmark sites according to their environmental performance, allowing the client to prioritise support.  Pollution risk services also ensure that sites manage their operations to reduce the risk of an incident and know how to respond to reduce environmental pollution in the event of a leak or spill.  While cost savings can be difficult to estimate, savings in spill clean-ups during the eight years Green Spark have been working with this company have been estimated at close to £1/2m over 100 sites in the UK estate.

“Green Spark have never let us down in eight years of working together; their unique service offers multi-site data for management analysis and makes the process of continual improvement that much easier to apply to all operational locations”.
